Visa Koiso-Kanttila directed the film A Winter’s Journey in 2007, with his brother, tenor singer Kalle Koiso-Kanttila as the leading character. The tough competition in his profession creates pressure, and a problematic relationship with his father eats away at the singer’s self-confidence.
Discussions with German singing teacher Roland Hermann and Finnish baritone Tom Krause help Kalle Koiso-Kanttila with his mental obstacles and finally he is signed as a soloist in the Regensburg Opera.
Cinematographer Marita Hällfors selected A Winter’s Journey for DocPoint’s Apollo series because she sees similarities between the opera singer’s growth story and her own development as an artist.
