The star of the film For The Birds is Kathy, who is a real crazy bird lady! This woman, living in a small house with her husband, has 200 birds that she has dedicated her life to.
Chickens, turkeys and ducks. Birds swarm all over Kathy’s and her husband’s house, even in their bedroom. Her husband tolerates the situation, but the ever-worsening chaos of birds is a continuous strain on the relationship. Eventually animal protection and officials get involved. The struggle with officials evolves into an intimate relationship drama between Kathy and her husband Gary.
This documentary following Kathy’s life for 5 years is an amazing and touching story about love towards animals that precedes even human relationships. This intimately shot film raises questions about the fickle definition of mental health and our ability to think about the interests of non-human creatures. It reminds us of the unpredictability of life but also about the possibility of changing the course of your own life.
